America’s history is comparatively short compared with most European countries. Despite this it has one of the richest and most interesting histories of all countries, below are some quick Interesting facts about USA (United States of America) history.
  • Only one President didn’t marry, James Buchanan.
  • The tallest President was Abraham Lincoln at 6’4”, the shortest was James Madison who was a foot shorter than Lincoln.
  • The USA gained most of its current territory by purchasing it off other countries. It often got bargain prices too, the Louisiana Purchase of much of the middle of America cost just $15 million in 1803, equivalent of just $220 million today. The US spends more buying some military jets than this!
  • The first permanent English settlement in America was at Jamestown which was founded in 1607.
  • The US system of government was established by a constitution, but this has been amended many times, usually to give additional rights to citizens.
  • During the years of 1861 to 1865 the US was engaged in a bloody civil war between the North and South over issues such as slavery, states rights and the economy.
  • Another war that divided America was the Vietnam war. Many felt so strongly the US shouldn’t have been involved that they were involved in violence against the government.
  • The first black US President is Barack Obama.
  • While the USA was a major participant in both World War 1 and World War 2, it joined both later than most European countries involved.
  • The USA amended its constitution to guarantee women to the right to vote on August 18th 1920.
  • One American President, William McKinley, was assassinated by an anarchist.
  • The USA was the first country to put a man on the moon, Neil Armstrong being that man.
  • The only country to ever use a nuclear bomb in warfare was the USA. It dropped one on Nagasaki and one of Hiroshima in Japan in World War 2.
  • In 1974 Richard Nixon resigned from his position as President of the United States due to the Watergate scandal.
  • The USA had an aggressive year in 1898. It invaded Hawaii and in defeating Spain took Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
  • The Wall Street Crash in 1929 caused the Great Depression which saw 13 million people unemployed.
  • The USA briefly banned alcohol from 1920, although the law proved unpopular and unworkable and was eventually withdrawn.
  • Britain and the USA haven’t been at peace since the War of Independence. In 1812 they went to war again.

Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the wonder monument in Agra (Uttar Pradesh), India.

Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his Beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal (Arjumand Bano Begum).

The English meaning of Taj Mahal is “Crown of the Palace” and Shah Jahan used to call Mumtaz Mahal “Jewel of the Palace”.

Construction of Taj Mahal started in year 1631 and completed in 1653, it took 22 years to build this historical monument. It was built in stages, with the plinth and the tomb taking up roughly 15 years. Building of minarets, mosque, jawab, and gateway took additional 5 years to be completed.

The Architecture of Taj Mahal is Combination of Persian, Islamic and Indian Architecture Style.

The Construction Cost of this Masterpiece Monument was around 320 Million Indian Rupees.

Around 2,000 people worked day and night for 22 years, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri was the architect of Taj Mahal.

Around 1,000 Elephants were employeed for the transportation of construction material.

30 different varieties of precious and semi precious stones were used to make Taj Mahal more beautiful.

99 names of ALLAH can be found as calligraphic inscriptions on the sides of the actual tomb of Mumtaz Mahal.

The markhor is an Asian mountain goat species found in the western Himalayas. You really can’t miss the Markhor since they are one unique looking goat.  Besides the long furry coat the Markhor also has unusual horns.  The spiraled horns of the male can grow as long as 1.5 m (4.9′).  Meanwhile the horns of the female are not nearly as impressive as they typically grow to about 50 cm (1.9′).  Personally, I would have been impressed with the 2 foot horns on the female if it weren’t for the 5 foot long male horns. Markhors weigh between 88 and 243 lb, and males are larger than females.  The average body length is 55 to 70 inches. Their coats are grizzled light brown to black in color (depending on the subspecies), and the coats of males are usually lighter than that of females. In the summer, their coats are short and smooth, and in the winter they grow longer and thicker. Males have long hair on their chin, throat, chest, and shanks, and females have smaller fringes. Both male and female have tightly curled, corkscrew-like horns that start close together at the head and spread out toward the tips, but the horns of males grow about six times longer.

Typically these goats can be found on the mountains ranging anywhere from 600 -3600 m above sea level in scrub forests made up of primarily oaks, pines, and junipers. They are mainly active in the early morning and late afternoon. They graze mainly during the spring and summer feeding on a variety of grasses. During the autumn and winter months, they eat leaves, twigs, and shrubs. Males are solitary and females and their young live in herds of around nine. Mating occurs in the winter, and males fight for breeding rights by lunging and locking horns to make the other lose its balance. Females give birth to one to two young after a gestation period of 135 to 170 days.

Three markhor subspecies are endangered: the Chiltan markhor or Chiltan Wild Goat (Capra falconeri chiltanensis) found in Pakistan, the Straight-horned markhor (Capra falconeri jerdoni) found in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the Kabul markhor (Capra falconeri megaceros), also found in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Chiltan markhor may also be called Capra aegagrus chialtanensis because there is much controversy regarding its classification as aCapra falconeri subspecies, and some argue that it is a subspecies of the wild goat (Capra aegarus). All three subspecies are threatened due to hunting by humans. Their horns are prized among trophy hunters and used in the Asian medicine market. They also compete with domestic livestock and local agriculture for habitat. All three subspecies were listed as endangered in 1976, but there are no other known conservation plans for the species.
